iSeries Support Engineer

Chapman Tate Associates are working exclusively with a leading Managed Services Provider (MSP) and trusted IBM Partner who are looking to hire an experienced iSeries Support Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established IT services company that delivers critical support and solutions to a range of clients across the UK.
As an iSeries Support Engineer, you will play a key role in the support and maintenance of our client’s IBM midrange infrastructure – including iSeries (AS400) and IBM Power Systems. You’ll be supporting multiple customers, acting as a technical expert and ensuring systems are running smoothly and efficiently.
You’ll be based in the West Midlands with a hybrid working model (2–3 days on-site), offering flexibility and a great work/life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 2nd/3rd line support for IBM i (AS400/iSeries) environments
- Work closely with customers to resolve technical issues and maintain system uptime
- Carry out regular system health checks, backups, upgrades, and patching
- Participate in the planning and implementation of system improvements and migrations
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors (including IBM) to escalate and resolve issues
- Ensure documentation and knowledge sharing is kept up to date
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong experience working with iSeries / AS400 / IBM i environments
- Knowledge of IBM Power Systems and other IBM midrange technologies
- Experience working in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or customer-facing environment is preferred
- Strong troubleshooting skills with an ability to manage incidents from start to resolution
- Excellent communication skills with a proactive, problem-solving attitude
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team
